Book Review: The Trouble with Flirting by Rachel Morgan

Goodreads Synopsis

Labelled a nerd for most of high school, Livi sees her first year of university as a chance to redefine herself. She can finally enter the popular crowd and maybe even land herself a super hot boyfriend. But Livi’s about to discover that the price of popularity may be more than she’s willing to pay, and that what — and who — she wants most has always been right in front of her.

My Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Trouble with Flirting was a nice, clean, fun story. It was easy to relate to the main characters-after all, college is a time for reinventing yourself, right? The story moved along moderately well, without an overwhelming amount of drama. That doesn't mean there aren't any dramatic points-there are a few different places in the story that will have you saying "oh my goodness, what's going to happen now?"-they are just written to blend into the overall story (with one notable exception at a party).

Our female lead, Livi, is your typical college freshman who wants to break away from her nerdy high school persona and become the person she wished she could have been in high school. She overdoes it in some areas, but it plays well into the story and in her interactions with one of her roommates, Adam. Oh, Adam. Yes, you're going to want to add him to your book boyfriend list. I really liked his character-supportive, a wonderful friend, and well-just kind of dreamy (at least to me). I was kind of on the fence with the "popular" girls Livi fell in with when she started college-these are the kind of girls I didn't care for when I was that age.

There are some points where the story dragged a little for me, but the writing was clear and flowed well for the most part. The romantic parts were pretty tame, so if you prefer a cleaner read then this book is a good choice.

A good story about discovering who you really are and embracing your true personality while finding the person you're really meant to be with, The Trouble with Flirting was a 3.5-star read for me.
